What do you need to know about autumn skincare changeover?

The cool autumn days are finally here. During the change of season, sometimes it brings skin problems to some individuals. Dryness and peeling, allergies, and acne ...... If you are experiencing this, it’s a reminder to you that it's time to change your skin care products.

But when it comes to changing skincare products for the changed season, there’s things that you need to look out for to achieve the desired result!

Why do skin care products need to change with the seasons?

Throughout the year, the humidity, temperature, and UV intensity of the environment we live in changes, so the skin needs a different focus of care. While in the summer we emphasise on oil control and sun protection, autumn requires less oil control and more focus on hydration and moisturisation.

Skincare products should not be changed all at once!

The skin has a growth cycle of 28 days and changing skin care products all at once or frequently is more likely to trigger skin irritation. It is best to change your make-up remover, toner, essence, lotion and cream gradually to give your skin a chance to tolerate the process. It is advisable to choose a period when you skin is stable and change one product every other week.

Autumn skin care choices for different skin types

Dry skin: locking in moisture

In autumn, dry skin is clearly dehydrated and prone to fine lines and dry flakiness, so while hydrating you skin, paying attention to locking in the moisturisation, is the best way to tackle tense and dry skin. A good way to look in the moisture from your face cream is by applying face oil after the moisturiser to prevent it from evaporate.

Oily skin: reduce oil control and exfoliate

In autumn, when the temperature difference between morning and evening is greater, the metabolism becomes unstable and oily skin will produce less oil and be prone to old keratin build-up. You can moderately increase the number of exfoliations, gradually reduce oil control and enhance moisturisation in the U-zone.

Combination skin: hydrate and moisturise

Combination skin is less oily in autumn and the T-zone is not particularly greasy, but it begins to dry and dehydrated. Thus, full face hydration and topical exfoliation are the most important treatments in this season.

Sensitive skin: gentle and more moisturisation

Sensitive skin tends to become dry in autumn, with moisture loss in the skin, and the skin becomes more sensitive to environmental and temperature changes. This type of skin is more prone to capillary dilation and redness on the cheeks when it exposed to cold and heat. Skincare products that are plant-based and natural, which replenish a large amount of moisture to the skin can solve skin sensitivity problems in many ways.

A gentle reminder: To avoid skin problems, it is important to understand how your skin changes and what does it need during the change of season, and adjust your skincare products accordingly!
